About Us

Pleasant River Wildlife Foundation was founded as a Maine-based land trust and 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 1998.  Our Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees and is staffed by an Executive Director.  We have adopted the Standards and Practices of the Land Trust Alliance as our guiding governance principles.

Our board and staff share a deep commitment to:

  • Protecting high value wildlife habitat in coastal Downeast Maine

  • Preserving traditional public access to all our properties

  • Working in close coordination with other partners to achieve significant conservation at a regional scale

In our first twelve years PRWF has acquired 22 properties in four PRWF Project Areas. Located near our home base in Addison it is in these areas where we concentrate our conservation efforts. In all the properties have:

  • 8 1/2 miles of coastal frontage

  • 1,600 acres of uplands, freshwater wetlands, salt marsh and intertidal flats

We have two more properties under contract for closing during late 2010.  When completed these acquisitions will increase our total conservation holdings to:

  • 9 miles of coastal frontage

  • 1,830 acres of uplands, freshwater wetlands, salt marsh and intertidal flats
