About Us

Pleasant River Wildlife Foundation was founded as a Maine-based land trust and 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 1998.  Our Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees and has no paid staff.  We have adopted the Standards and Practices of the Land Trust Alliance as our guiding governance principles.
Our Board shares a deep commitment to:

  • Protecting high value wildlife habitat in coastal Downeast Maine
  • Preserving traditional public access to all our properties
  • Working in close coordination with other partners to achieve significant conservation at a regional scale

In our first fifteen years PRWF has acquired 31 properties in four PRWF Project Areas.  It is in these areas, located near our home base in Addison, where we concentrate our conservation efforts.  The properties that we protect encompass:

  • 12.23 miles of coastal frontage and 3.69 miles of streams and riparian wetlands
  • 2,328 acres of uplands, freshwater wetlands, salt marsh and intertidal flats
