Pleasant River Wildlife Foundation Project Areas

heronPleasant River Wildlife Foundation’s primary mission is to protect scarce, high value wildlife habitat in the heart of the Downeast Coast of Maine.  Our emphasis is on properties with intertidal or freshwater wetlands that are ideal habitat for waterfowl, shorebirds, wading birds and woodcock and have a generous upland buffer to their wetlands.

We acquire and manage properties in four Project Areas relatively close to our base of operations in Addison:

Each of these Project Areas is located in one of the estuarine Priority Areas selected by the Heads of the Estuaries Partnership for concentrated conservation work.  PRWF has already protected 1,056 upland acres, 123 acreas of freshwater wetlands, 430 acreas of intertidal wetlands, and more than 8-½ miles of coastal frontage of great importance for wildlife and the public in these Project Areas.  By the end of 2010 we expect to have increased our holdings to include a total of 1,830 acres of high value uplands, freshwater wetlands and intertidal habitat and 9 miles of shoreline.
