Mission

Pleasant River Wildlife Foundation’s mission is to protect scarce, high value wildlife habitat in coastal Washington County – the heart of the Downeast Coast of Maine.  Our highest priority is the protection of intertidal and freshwater wetlands and upland buffer that provide important habitat for waterfowl, shorebirds, wading birds and woodcock.

We acquire and manage properties in four PRWF Project Areas relatively close to our base of operations in Addison:

Our broader vision and increasingly significant role is to provide leadership and support to multi-organization partnerships pursuing regional conservation strategies.  Our most important cooperative effort is the Heads of the Estuaries Partnership
which we helped establish in early 2008

We are dedicated to helping preserve the way of life of local people whose livelihoods are closely tied to the sea and whose recreation depends on unfettered access to lands, shoreline and waters. The Foundation’s properties are open to residents and visitors for traditional pursuits, including hunting and fishing, that are consistent with preserving sensitive wildlife habitat.
